Oh yeah. Here in New Jersey, the farm markets are starting to open with great local produce.
Yesterday, the Mrs. bought some local peaches that were absolutely perfect.
So sweet, with juice that just ran down my chin when I bit into it.
MMM. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is as good as eating fresh local foods.
And peaches are a great fruit.
A small peach (about 3 oz) has around 30 calories, with a tiny amount of protein, and lots of energy producing carbs. It is a complex carb, so it's not like eating sugar, although they taste as sweet.
I also has my first peanut butter and tomato sandwich of the season, on whole grain toast. And, it was wonderful.

You have fresh peaches and tomatoes already??????
Darn! I need to move.
I just got my first of the season tomatoes from my garden this week. I am excited. Great blog.
Peaches are my favourites and that too fresh from my own garden .Nice blog you have.
@ Shyne: Oh yeah. NJ is much closer to the equator than you are. :)
@ Bill: Nothing better than Jersey tomatoes. All my friends with gardens know if they have extra tomatoes, I take them.
@ Bikran: THanks. We used to have a peach tree when I was a kid. Few things compare to going to the back yard and picking a fresh peach.
I just had the most perfect peach today...I love it when the come into season. Where I am from we even have a peach festival...I love the idea because it promotes the idea that we should all be eating locally.
